Check
Alert
If you sell check
guarantee in Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana, you may have encountered a
company called Check Alert. They trace and collect NSF, forged, and
counterfeit checks. About 900 merchants use the Check Alert system,
including a Michigan Girl Scout troop. The girls received 289 bad
checks worth more than $20,000 and Check Alert recovered
$13,800.
According to Daire
Rendon, president and owner of Check Alert, consumers still prefer
checks. "If businesses want to do a large amount of transactions,
they need to take checks,íí she says. "Next to cash, a
check is the most convenient form of payment. So I think bad checks
are going to continue to be a problem for a long time to
come.íí
