A Thing The Checkís in the E-mail
The Check's in the E-mail

CrossCheck, Inc., the nation's largest independently owned check guarantee company, has announced an upgrade to their Internet check acceptance program, ChecksByNet. Version 3.0 is now available for online merchants.

"If it doesn't need cryptography, it isn't e-commerce," noted Brandes Elitch CrossCheck's eCommerce Product Manager. "In our new version, we have enhanced our encryption capabilities and added many new features."

ChecksByNet is an e-commerce payment solution that enables a Web site to accept a consumer's check as payment for products and services. With a link to ChecksByNet on the merchant's Web site, the online shopper who wishes to pay by check fills out a blank check on the screen, agrees to the terms, and completes the transaction. The merchant using the ChecksByNet software on the backend, prints out the guaranteed check in real-time at the physical storefront. The check is processed by the bank in the same manner as other paper checks.

Some of the ChecksByNet 3.0 upgrades include the ability for merchants to selectively choose which checks they wish to print and which ones to hold. The upgrade includes an automatic log on and printing option that may be set up for convenience. CrossCheck also added a "reprint" feature that allows a merchant to reprint a check if an error occurs while printing, e.g.; print jam, forgot to install MICR toner, or load paper tray with check stock.

"The Internet is not just a part of retailing future, but is retailing future. Due to the opportunity to provide better, faster, and inexpensive consumer interaction, the business to beat in the next decade is the one wired to the consumer's home and providing the desired consumer payment preferences. That's why our ChecksByNet solution is a necessity to any online merchant that wants to maximize their payment options," said Elitch.

The ChecksByNet secured Web server is safer than 99.5% of all U.S. Web sites and employs SSL of 128-bit encryption. CrossCheck introduced their patent-pending ChecksByNet service in December of 1997. Since then, the demand for this service has been highóand currently, CrossCheck is supporting more than one thousand online merchants with this easy-to-use e-commerce tool.
