Letters to
the Editor
Dear Mr.
Green:
When praise is
deserved, praise should be given! Your recent article in The Green
Sheet titled "Take it Easy" and your book Good Selling!SM were not only
fortuitous but also extremely professional in dealing with a recent
situation with a client.
Hats off and
"bravo" to you, Mr. Paul Green! You are a person I would someday like
to meet.
Best
regards,
F. John LaIacona,

Dear
Paul:
My company
recently attended and sponsored a booth at the ETA conference in
Baltimore. The experience was both enjoyable and potentially
profitable. However, it seems to me that the ETA is missing its
target market. The ETA seems to consist of only the "big players"
yet, the industry is supported by many small ISOs. We invited three
of these "smaller players" to join us and they found the experience
so rewarding that all three signed up to become ETA members. Correct
me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the ETA want to expand its membership
base?
When I brought
this concept up to some of my associates at the show they responded
that the "bigger guys don't want the smaller guy here" because they
are afraid of losing them to the competition. This is absurd.
Competition makes us all stronger and more competitive. If I feared
losing my following I would not be in the business at all, or any
business, for that matter. I would like to propose that the ETA,
perhaps with the cooperation of The Green Sheet, invite so-called
"smaller" players to attend the next meeting with a complimentary one
day pass. Please advise your thoughts on the above.
Very truly
yours,
Corey M. Saftler,
Integrated Leasing Corp.
Dear
Corey:
I'm glad to hear
that you found the ETA conference in Baltimore an enjoyable and
profitable experience. In The Green Sheet issue dated July 26, 1999
we ran a center-spread advertisement for the show which included a
letter from me stating why I feel it is necessary for individual ISOs
to join and participate in the ETA. I am happy that a significant
number of people who responded to my appeal to attend the ETA did
attend after all, and that we were able to accommodate everyone who
contacted us for some financial assistance. Through the Wyatt Baxter
Scholarship Fund, The Green Sheet, Inc., was able to send a number of
"first timers" to the show in Baltimore.
I will continue to
encourage the ISO community to attend the ETA events and become
active in the organization. Look for more announcements as we get
closer to the next meeting in Las Vegas, NV.
Good
Selling!

Julie:
First let me begin
by conveying my sincerest thanks to you and the staff for sending me
the 1999 U.S. Check Study and last two issues of The Green Sheet!
Being a new company in this industry, I have found these to be
invaluable for not only monitoring industry trends, but some great
sales info is packed in there as well. This brings me to my first
request: Is it possible to get reprints of articles? I realize that I
could photocopy them, but the quality would not be professional
enough for presentation to a potential client.
Next, what are the
advertising rates for the Resource Guide?
Thanks again for
such a useful publication. Keep up the good work!

Hello:
How much does it
"cost" the merchant to accept cash v. check v. credit
cards?
A great study
would indicate the "hidden costs" of accepting cash/check, such as
the labor for counting cash, and any losses due to loss, theft,
etc.
Thanks in advance
for your help,
Jon Fox
Jon:
I am sorry to say,
I do not have a lead on this information for you. I have shaken some
trees, but nothing. This means of course that should you develop
something, or commission someone to develop these comparisons, we
would love to share it with our readers.
Best of
luck
