Standard
Practice
ECML, or
Electronic Commerce Modeling Language, is quickly becoming the
industry standard for the way merchants set up the payment and
shipping pages on their Web sites. As testament, CyberCash, Inc.,
announced they have extended their "Form Wizard" capability for the
InstaBuy Agile Wallet platform to support ECML.
Microsoft, Sun, IBM, Visa and MasterCard have also announced their
support of ECML as the "standard."
The ECML standard
encourages merchants to use a specified format to set up their
payment pages so that consumers can use any electronic wallet that
has implemented the standard. And, since CyberCash developed the
first commercial electronic wallet, they are behind ECML. "We
strongly support the ECML standard because itíll make shopping
online easier for consumers and encourage the distribution of
electronic wallets," said Jim Condon, president and COO,
CyberCash.
"Providers of
e-commerce products and services like CyberCash must continue to do
everything they can to make e-commerce simple and, ultimately,
ubiquitous," said Bill Melton, chairman of the board and CEO,
CyberCash.
