PCI Security Standards Council Publishes First-Ever Annual Report Highlighting Global Progress in Payment Security Inaugural Report Outlines 2025 Milestones, Global Collaboration, and a Forward-looking Vision for Securing the Evolving Payments Ecosystem

WAKEFIELD, Mass., 29 January 2026 — The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) today announced the release of its inaugural Annual Report, marking a significant milestone in the Council’s nearly 20-year history of advancing global payment security through industry collaboration, innovation, and education.

The 2025 PCI SSC Annual Report provides a comprehensive overview of the Council’s progress, priorities, and impact over the past year, detailing how PCI SSC and its global community work together to address evolving threats, strengthen standards, and support secure payment environments worldwide.

“2025 was a year of meaningful progress for PCI SSC,” said Gina Gobeyn, Executive Director of the PCI Security Standards Council. “As payment technologies continue to evolve and transaction volumes grow, collaboration across the global payments’ ecosystem is more critical than ever. This first annual report reflects the collective effort of our Participating Organizations, partners, and stakeholders to advance payment security for businesses and consumers everywhere.”

Key highlights from the report include:

Transformation to a product-led operating model, including the introduction of seven PCI SSC product families designed to deliver clearer structure, greater consistency, and improved stakeholder value across the Council’s standards, programs, training, and supporting resources.

Significant advancements in standards and technology, with major updates, new releases, Requests for Comments, training programs, and guidance documents aligned to a forward-looking roadmap for securing emerging payment channels.

Expanded global collaboration and representation, including the seating of a record 64-member Board of Advisors for the 2025–2027 term and the launch of a new India–South Asia Regional Engagement Board.

Robust education and engagement efforts, with more than 7,500 professionals trained worldwide, record participation at Community Meetings in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and strong growth across digital education and outreach channels.

A future-focused approach to evolving technologies, including new guidance and thought leadership addressing the role of artificial intelligence in payment security.

The report also provides a look into PCI SSC’s vision for 2026, when the Council will celebrate its 20th anniversary, reaffirming its mission to protect the global payment ecosystem through collaboration, innovation, and vigilance.
