Wakefield, Mass., Jan. 17, 2013 -- Today the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), an open, global forum for the development of payment card security standards, invites the PCI community to participate in the 2013-2015 Board of Advisors election process, new PCI Special Interest Groups (SIG) and the 2013 PCI Community Meetings. As an industry standards body, the PCI Council relies on the involvement of more than 650 Participating Organizations representing the global payments community to drive the ongoing development of strong technical standards and resources for card security.
PCI Board of Advisors Nominations
This year, the Council will seat a new Board of Advisors, 21 individuals that represent the PCI community by providing counsel and strategic and technical input to SSC leadership. The nomination period opens January 27, running through February 25. A voting period will follow on March 7-April 5, and the board will be formally seated in May to serve a two-year term. Any Participating Organization can self-nominate by putting forward one representative through the application form on the PO portal.
"As a global organization, representation from EMEA, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific on the Board of Advisors is critical for understanding and addressing the challenges in protecting cardholder data worldwide. We're pleased to have had such a diverse mix of perspectives and expertise from the outgoing board, whose feedback and advice has been instrumental in the Council's ongoing efforts to address key issues such as mobile payment acceptance security, and proper installation of payment applications through the new Qualified Integrators and Resellers (QIR) program," said Bob Russo, general manager, PCI Security Standards Council. "I'd like to thank those who've served in this capacity and encourage Participating Organizations to play a leadership role in driving payment security forward by running for the Board of Advisors."
Twenty-one seats are available on the PCI SSC Board of Advisors; 14 will be open for nomination by current PCI SSC Participating Organizations. An additional seven will be appointed by the PCI SSC Executive Committee to ensure broad representation both geographically and across key stakeholder groups, and will be distributed in the following categories: financial institutions (acquirers and issuers), payment processors, merchants (e.g. retailers, airlines) and others (e.g. technology vendors, industry associations, service providers).
