Mobile commerce platform operator Firethorn Mobile Inc., a subsidiary of wireless technology firm Qualcomm Inc., is partnering with First Data Corp. for the pilot. First Data, which is Burger King's electronic payment processor, will provision new accounts and process payments after smart-phone users download the Firethorn payments app from Apple Inc.'s App Store and Google Inc.'s Google Play app marketplace.
According to Elizabeth Grice, Director of Communications at First Data, prepaid account provisioning and "the related payment functionality for the purchase and reload of those virtual card accounts" will be performed over First Data's Universal Commerce mobile payments gateway. However, the actual payments at the POS will be processed over First Data's ValueLink prepaid platform, Grice noted.
Approximately 50 Burger King locations will reportedly participate in the pilot.
The Green Sheet Inc. is now a proud affiliate of Bankcard Life, a premier community that provides industry-leading training and resources for payment professionals. Click here for more information.
