to spread worldwide, chargebacks were described payments
as a multibillion dollar threat to the integrity of card
payments. And researchers estimated the number of
transactions disputed annually would grow to 33 mil- professionals

cancellations and disputed transactions stemming from
the coronavirus might cause.
With that in mind, this issue's lead article delves into
what we know about the overall chargeback land-
scape at this time; changing card brand rules govern-
ing them; disputes stemming from friendly fraud and
card skimming; unique issues faced by the petroleum
industry, which has yet to implement EMV; tools pro-
