As part of our mission to provide information and resources that will aid in the professional success of ISOs and merchant level salespeople, we periodically compile glossaries of terms used in the payments biz. This helps ensure that all of us, from the newest entrant to the most seasoned payment pro, know what we're talking about when we say, for example, mid-qualified or MO/TO. Also, given the constant evolution of payments, newer terms like payfac and blockchain are being discussed with increasing frequency.
Thus, the lead article for this issue is our latest glossary. We have limited space within our pages, of course, so we had to limit the entries. If you'd like us to add terms and definitions to an online version, please let us know at greensheet@greensheet.com.
You may even spot potential glossary candidates in some of the articles herein. Our industry-expert contributing writers have addressed an array of topics, including the critical need for the feet on the street to take good care of their mental health; the accelerated and exciting evolution of electronic transactions since the days of phone-in authorizations; a look at why and when processor price increases are justified; a simple, effective way one ecommerce merchant reduced shopping cart abandonment; issues sellers need to consider before, during and after a portfolio sale; and a few astute predictions, along with a little advice for the coming year.
In the news section, you'll find stories on Visa and Wal-Mart's settlement of their differences over PIN debit in Canada; the strength of ecommerce and how it's driving economic growth; a double-digit rise in all retail areas, from mom-and-pop retailers to the largest global brands, during the 2016 holiday period; cybercrime trends in the APAC region and ways to mitigate it. Also, along with company, product and individual profiles, we've included news briefs on new retail trends and milestones such as new awards, certifications, expansions, research, partnerships, acquisitions and appointments of note.
Have you, your colleagues, partners or company achieved something outstanding in the payments sphere lately? We'd love to include your milestones, as well. We don't have room to print all the good news we receive, but, on our home page, we post all relevant press releases sent to press@greensheet.com.
And we always welcome your questions, comments and suggestions at greensheet@greensheet.com. Keep in touch; we are here to help you thrive in your career.
