NCR Corp. added NCR Silver Quantum to its line of NCR Silver commerce solutions. The all-in-one, Android-based system combines a POS tablet by Samsung Electronics America, payment card reader by Ingenico Group and NCR Silver Android app into an all-in-one transaction processing and back-office operations system.
The NCR Silver product line ranges from entry-level service models to full-scale integrated hardware and software systems. The products are designed to be flexible, scalable and adaptable to individual merchant requirements, NCR representatives stated. Chris Poelma, President and General Manager at NCR Silver, said the NCR Silver commerce station can support each phase of a merchant's business lifecycle. "The [NCR Silver Quantum] commerce station is durable, payment processor agnostic and provides chip and mobile wallet functionality," Poelma stated. "It, along with the entire NCR Silver solution set, offers everything businesses need to operate efficiently – today, and ahead."
The company stated that NCR Silver Quantum users can process payments, manage back-office operations and access real-time analytics and reporting within the all-inclusive commerce station. They can remotely program the 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy A tablet using Samsung KNOX Configure, a cloud-based service and IT administration tool. They can accept mobile wallets, loyalty programs and major payment card schemes using Ingenico Group's NFC-enabled RP457c mobile card reader.
Ted Brodheim, Vice President of Vertical Business at Samsung Electronics America, said NCR Silver Quantum is ideally positioned for fast-paced retail environments. "The retail industry is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, and the point-of-sale process is one of the most critical areas to address," he said. "With this new commerce station, NCR and Samsung are providing retailers with a technology solution that can simplify employee management of transactions and improve customer shopping experiences, while ensuring processes remain in smooth operation." Mark Bunney, Director of Go-to-Market Strategy at Ingenico Group, said the RP457c card reader's compact design works well with integrated POS systems, smartphones and tablets. "Because the card reader can be paired with a smartphone or tablet through Bluetooth or a headphone jack, it can help merchants be agile in accepting payments," he added. "The RP457c supports magstripe, EMV and contactless transactions, making it easy to accept customers' preferred payment methods."
Bunney further noted Ingenico's EMV-compliant technology enables partners and end-users to enhance NCR Silver Quantum security while reducing a merchant's PCI scope. "The mPOS EMV SDK leverages a semi-integrated software architecture, insuring that the payment information is not shared with the rest of the POS application," he said. "This removes the POS solution from PCI scope, making audits much easier for the merchant."
Samsung's KNOX suite of products and defense-grade operating system brings additional security layers to NCR Silver, noted John M. Gibson, Senior Manager of Mobile B2B, Business Development and Retail at Samsung Electronics America. "Samsung KNOX, combined with Mobile Device Manager Plus, provides secure, flexible mobile device management capabilities without compromising on data security," he stated.
Micro merchants and enterprise-scale businesses with multiple locations can implement NCR Silver Quantum or the NCR Silver Android POS app as a standalone solution, using a single log-in to manage the system. Silver Concierge services, provided with all NCR Silver Quantum subscriptions, include a preloaded Android app, 24/7 live customer support, continuous software updates and integrated loyalty, email marketing and inventory management features, according to NCR representatives.
Advanced integration options for NCR Silver Quantum provide a range of cloud-based subscription services and hardware peripheral options. For example, the NCR Silver Console and NCR Silver Commerce packages provide additional value-added capabilities such as advanced reporting and employee and inventory management. NCR Silver Quantum is also compatible with QuickBooks Online, Paychex, Ecwid, Xero and numerous third-party loyalty programs. And the NCR Silver Pro Restaurant Edition Android POS app is on the company's near-term product roadmap, NCR representatives said.
