Unattended Android platform: far more than POS

Product: The 6500
Company: Advanced Mobile Payment Inc.

Advanced Mobile Payment Inc., a payments solutions provider focused on security and smart integration, launched the 6500, an unattended solution designed to drive engagement and add value to self-service venues. Using AMP's proprietary Android OS platform, the device can easily adapt to vending, fuel pump, carwash, parking and other unattended merchant venues.

"Payment is only one component of the 6500," said Andrey Tikhonov, AMP USA CEO. "We think of it as an unattended platform inside a device. With its advanced capabilities, it can reach into the heart of an unattended environment and drive other devices."

AMP's partners constantly come up with new use cases for the platform, Tikhonov added. For example, students use the self-service 6500 at a college bookstore, and parking garages use the 6500's camera to photograph license plates.

Less hardware, more capabilities

The AMP 6500 unattended terminal combines incredible hardware with a hybrid Android/Linux OS, making integration and customization easy, stated Ryan Gibbs, marketing manager at AMP.

The all-in-one device combines a touch-screen display with contact, contactless and magnetic card readers within a small footprint. It accommodates high-speed, thermal printers with optional paper cutters and full-size paper roll capacity.

Built to withstand tough weather conditions, the device meets current dust and water resistance flame resistance and vandal-proofing standards, he noted. It can be deployed in any kind of environment, without sustaining damage or weathering.

The AMP line of secure Android terminals uses dual core technology to consolidate payments and smart features and create a digital ecosystem that supports third-party applications and remote diagnostics for managing device populations. The company's secure app marketplace enables merchants and service providers to directly engage with customers. An integrated terminal management system simplifies remote updates and device monitoring.

Collaboration, interoperability

Gibbs pointed out that the 6500 accepts all payments schemes, including EMV, chip and PIN, NFC contactless, magstripe, QR and barcodes, virtual wallets, and biometrics. All transactions are fully protected by the Android OS without sacrificing the security of legacy platforms, he noted. The device supports AES, 3DES, PKI, P2PE, DUKPT, M/S and remote key injection.

Additional features include advanced analytics that enable merchants to personalize checkout and better understand their customers. For example, receipts can be printed, emailed or sent by SMS to customers. The intuitive design and layout of the device and its touch-screen technology reduce the need for staff training and simplifies installation.

Android is a trusted and well-documented platform for a growing community of developers and content creators, Gibbs stated, adding that the company believes in an agile, collaborative approach to payment solutions that is focused on creating exceptional customer experiences. Together with our partners, we develop targeted solutions that deliver maximum value to the end user; we aim to empower others with our tools, rather than box them in with inflexible off-the-shelf products, he stated.

"The AMP 6500 is an all-in-one solution that transforms the unattended experience," he said. "It creates a complete ecosystem that brings unattended solutions into the 21st century." end of article
