Readers Speak: Google's new emphasis on helpful content

We wish to thank Derek Chew, CEO of Fullmoon Digital Marketing, for the following note about changes to Google's algorithm:In March 2023, Google rolled out its core update, one of the most significant updates in recent years. It has affected a plethora of websites and businesses, causing a considerable shift in the search engine rankings for many sites, and has garnered significant attention.

This algorithm update is designed to reward websites with high-quality, informative and relevant content. Those that provide value, and a good user experience, will see an increase in rankings, and ecommerce websites that make the buying experience easy for customers will see an increase in traffic and sales.

The update lowers the ranking of websites with low-quality, duplicated and irrelevant content, a poor user experience, and slow navigation. It also emphasizes mobile optimization and penalizes websites that are not mobile-friendly.

Thus, digital marketing that focuses on the fundamentals of driving website traffic, improving conversion rate optimization, and delivering an outstanding customer experience will see steady market gains regardless of what changes Google makes to its algorithm.

According to Statista, Google holds over 85 percent of the search engine market. The first three organic Google Search results account for 54..4 percent of all clicks, according to Up Inc. Also, Wordstream reported that 49 percent of companies stated they obtain the best marketing ROI through organic search. And companies that invest in significantly increasing SEO traffic over paid search see their customer acquisition cost drop by almost 60 percent, according to Yousuf Khan, a technology investor and partner at Ridge Investors.

The most important factor for SEO success is to consistently produce high-quality, highly relevant, and well-keyworded content that is tightly targeted to the audience's preferences.
