has sold the patent rights relating to MEI’s ShareBuilder customer
loyalty system to Catalina Marketing International, Inc. This deal
includes U.S. Pat. No. 5,857,175. (A system and method for offering
targeted discounts to customers) MEI’s ShareBuilder involves the use of
an in-store kiosk to issue to a consumer a shopping list of promotions
based on their loyalty card, which provide electronic discounts at
checkout.
Under
terms of this agreement, Catalina Marketing has granted back to MEI a
limited non-exclusive license to these patent rights, with Catalina
Marketing retaining exclusivity in grocery stores, pharmacies and mass
merchandisers. MEI will continue to sell the MEI ShareBuilder customer
loyalty system product to all other business segments.
