Register.com
Launches e-Security Solution
Register.com,
a leading domain name registrar (yes, there is someone other than Network
Solutions) recently launched CommerceLock, a digital certificate security
product that enables businesses to protect their Web-based transactions.
CommerceLock provides businesses engaging in e-commerce with the digital
certificate services they need to protect the privacy of the data they receive
from customers.
As many
The Green Sheet readers know from previous issues, digital certificates allow
Web merchants to secure online communication and transactions by verifying the
site’s authenticity and encrypting private information, including credit card
numbers.
CommerceLock
uses the highest level of e-security technology enabling register.com to issue
digital certificates to online businesses at an introductory rate of $149 per
certificate. Baltimore Technologies operates as the Certificate Authority
generating the digital certificate and providing authenticity checks on each
CommerceLock certificate applicant.
“CommerceLock
will enable all businesses, regardless of size, to buy first class security for
e-business applications at the same time as establishing their Web presence,”
said Andrew Morbitzer, vice president of marketing at Baltimore Technologies.
“Using Baltimore UniCERT PKI, digital certificates will be issued online to
provide the required security for all e-business services.”
Register.com
customers can purchase digital certificates through the domain registration
process or directly from www.register.com.
For a limited time, CommerceLock will be available to register.com customers for
an introductory price of $149, and for customers of other registrars for $199.
“In
spite of the growing importance of e-commerce security solutions, small and
medium sized businesses have had extremely limited choices when purchasing
digital certificates,” said Ronald Fried, Senior Vice President of Business
Development at register.com. “In developing CommerceLock, we’ve taken into
account the specific concerns of our small and medium sized business customers
and we’ve teamed up with a first class e-security provider, Baltimore
Technologies. As a result, we believe CommerceLock is the best digital
certificate product on the market today in terms of strength, value and
usability.”
