Hypercom
Scores FDMS Contract
Hypercom
Corporation has been awarded a $14 million, one-year contract with First Data
Corporation subsidiaries First Data Merchant Services Corporation (FDMS) and
Western Union. This partnership will allow merchants, through FDMS and Hypercom,
to use a single countertop appliance to securely handle traditional functions
such as credit, debit, EBT and e-cash payments and provide Web access for online
storefronts or e-mail.
FDMS
and Western Union will deploy Hypercom POS terminals and peripherals to
merchants nationwide. In conjunction with this rollout, First Data will deploy
Hypercom’s ePic ICE family of touch-screen card payment terminals. ePic
enables merchants to integrate their physical and Web-based storefronts using a
single Web appliance, the Hypercom ICE card payment terminal.
“We
selected Hypercom’s products because they are at the forefront of technology
and innovation and competitively priced,” said Eric M. Nelson, director FDMS
POS Products, First Data Corp. “We are pleased to announce this agreement,
which will also give our customers the ability to offer all of our merchants and
agents a migration strategy for secure and cost-effective access to a wide
variety of physical and Internet-based information services.”
The
ePic platform is a framework that consists of browser-equipped ICE touch-screen
terminals that connect to the Internet and deliver Internet-enabled applications
at the POS. ePic enables e-commerce, e-mail, electronic receipt capture and
Internet-based advertising and coupons via the POS terminal, and accepts credit,
debit, EBT and e-cash transactions.
“Hypercom’s
long relationship with First Data has been successful because of our shared
commitment to helping merchants take advantage of new technologies to improve
their business efficiency and increase their revenues,” said Jairo E.
Gonzalez, president, Hypercom Transaction Systems Group. With the Hypercom
solution, First Data is offering its customers an easy, cost-effective way to
simplify management of both their online and physical operations.”
