Web
Site Combats Online Fraud
The
Worldwide E-Commerce Fraud Prevention Network recently unveiled its fraud
prevention Web site, merchantfraudsquad.com. The site provides advice about how
merchants can combat online fraud, and includes information about preventing the
use of stolen credit cards online, effectively reporting online crime and the
use of e-signatures for fraud prevention.
The
Network is a not-for-profit organization formed last fall by American Express
and its coalition partners Amazon.com, buy.com, ClearCommerce, Expedia.com,
First Data Corp. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
While
there are a variety of consumer privacy and protection organizations, this group
is distinctive because it specifically focuses on meeting the needs of
merchants. The Network’s goal is to significantly reduce merchants’ exposure
to online fraud and promote the growth of e-commerce. Free charter membership is
available to any organization or business committed to the Network’s mission.
Merchantfraudsquad.com is the first initiative of the network.
Jennifer
Bennett, Network co-chair and Vice President for Customer Service Strategy,
American Express said, “Combating online fraud represents a huge challenge
since merchants can be vulnerable to a wide range of criminal tactics, even if
their own Web sites are secure. The Network seeks to identify these
vulnerabilities and provide smart solutions for fighting back.”
More than 350 businesses and organizations have
signed on as charter members, including many recognized e-commerce leaders. To
