Daon Secures Third Patent Advancing AI Agent Governance in Regulated Industries
Daon’s agentic AI portfolio proactively addresses key risks created by autonomous agents through a trust architecture covering person-agent verification, agent behavior monitoring, and limited access for sensitive tool and API actions.
Fairfax, VA – July 28, 2026 – Daon®, The Digital Identity Trust Company, announced a patent that addresses a critical production challenge for agentic AI in regulated industries. The technology allows an enterprise to decide whether a specific agent may perform a specific action against a protected tool, service, account, or application programming interface. Issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on July 21, 2026, “Methods and Systems for Authorizing Invocation of a Tool by an Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Agent” is the third in Daon’s series of patents addressing agentic AI security and governance. Together, the three patents describe technology spanning the relationship between a person and an agent, the integrity of the agent’s behavior, and authorization for individual agent actions.
The newly issued patent describes an authorization checkpoint that evaluates an agent request based on the agent’s ongoing link to the person on whose behalf it is intended to act, the integrity of the agent’s execution behavior, and the context of the requested action. When conditions are satisfied, the system generates a “digital permission slip” that encodes limits on what the agent can do, including a permitted action type, defined scope, and a time limit. The issued claims also address short authorization windows, constrained delegation artifacts, rate and transaction limits, execution-context binding, attestation-derived evidence, and session-bound replay protection.
“Agentic AI is unlikely to safely move from experimentation into high-value production environments on intelligence alone. It requires identity, policy, containment, and evidence at the moment an agent attempts to act,” said Tom Grissen, CEO of Daon and a co-inventor of the new patent. “This patent strengthens Daon’s ability to help enterprises move beyond the false choice between blocking autonomous agents and granting them broad standing authority.”
A three-patent architecture for trustworthy agentic AI U.S. Patent No. 12,688,261 is the third issued U.S. patent in Daon’s agentic AI portfolio. 2 Agent behavioral integrity U.S. Patent No. 12,563,045, issued February 24, 2026, addresses whether an autonomous agent and its runtime continue to behave within expected bounds. It evaluates agent-native execution signals and runtime attestation, applies policy at discover, invoke, and runtime checkpoints, and supports outcomes that allow, modify, sandbox, down-scope, or deny agent capabilities.
3 Action-level delegated authorization U.S. Patent No. 12,688,261 turns fidelity, integrity, and request context into an authorization decision at the moment of action. It enables narrowly scoped, short-lived delegation artifacts rather than relying solely on a human login, a persistent session, or broad standing credentials.

Designed for the realities of regulated enterprise environments The patent portfolio is intended to help address the needs of large enterprises in financial services, insurance, healthcare, telecommunications, travel and hospitality, and the public sector. In these environments, autonomous agents may eventually retrieve records, prepare transactions, assist employees, analyze claims, assemble documents, or interact with protected operational systems. The business requirement is not simply to identify an agent at the start of a session, but to control what the agent can do, for whom, against which resource, for how long, and with what evidence.
