                                     s the 40th anniversa-
                                     ry of The Green Sheet
                                     draws closer, we con-
                           A tinue to explore the
                           payments industry's evolution
in retrospective articles penned by staff and by con-
tributing writers. This issue's lead article expands our
look into the extraordinary life of a payment transac-
tion, which kicked off with our Aug. 28 issue. The
focus this time is on transaction security checkpoints
as detailed by several experts in the field. Among
the telling topics they discuss are PCI DSS version
        4.0, verification and authentication, point-to-point
encryption, DORA compliance for companies doing
business in the European Union, emerging threats,
        and data devaluation.

Other articles in the retrospective series include a
first-person account of the early years of one industry
veteran's career, as well as words to inspire a race to
the top instead of the proverbial "race to the bottom"
bemoaned by many through the years. And we're got
current developments covered, too. The Education
and Views sections contain expert perspectives and
advice on how to ace your next interview (hint: prepa-
ration, preparation, preparation); the pros and cons of
using an intermediary account versus direct debit in
AP automation; how technology-driven strategies of-
fer clarification for those implementing cash discount
and surcharging; how AI can be used to combat the
growing fraud tactics powered by AI; and evidence
that old payment methods, like old-fashioned checks,
        don't die—they move over.

News stories cover such topics as PayPal's foray into
cryptocurrencies with its first stablecoin, PayPal USD,
in partnership with Paxos; a new report from Altair,
revealing that digital twin technology is trending in
the banking, financial services and insurance sec-
tors.; indications that FedNow poses minimal threat
to major card networks like Mastercard and Visa de-
spite enabling financial institutions to offer real-time
payment products that compete with legacy debit
products; why Adyen's recent share price plummet in-
dicates European cross-border brands aren't yet pre-
pared for the U.S. market; and MPC23, a holistic digi-
tal commerce event that covered topics from banking
to security and fully embraced digital commerce.

Also included to enhance your career are updates on
industry milestones reached; new company and prod-
uct profiles; and our popular Resource Guide contain-
ing information on industry stalwarts with decades
of experience, along with new enterprises with new
ideas. And don't forget to check out our advertis-
ers without whom we wouldn't be able to serve you.
