Simplified EMV and contactless integrations

Product: ChipDNA Cloud
Company: NMI

NMI, a payment card gateway and technology company, added ChipDNA Cloud to its ChipDNA payments technology stack. The API solution is designed to simplify EMV and contactless commerce integrations. ChipDNA Cloud is a timely resource that can help independent software vendors (ISVs), ISOs and merchants meet demand for secure, touchless commerce, stated Jennifer Sherman, senior vice president of product at NMI.

"Many merchants will need to overhaul their payment device strategy to support contactless card readers," Sherman said. "For many software solution providers that means new integrations, new SDKs, new drivers and new hassles."

ChipDNA Cloud removes complexities from EMV and contactless integrations, she noted, adding that the solution enables ISVs and ISOs to deliver a range of secure, in-person payment options to merchants who continually face decisions that impact business continuity.

Diverse use cases

In addition to enhancing new and existing business models, ChipDNA Cloud can expand options at the POS by bringing together ecommerce and card-present options in retail spaces with minimal development efforts. ISOs can deploy the all-in-one solution with no development effort; merchants can process payments without writing any code, the company stated.

Steve Staden, senior vice president of product at Wind River Financial, found that ChipDNA was ready to use out of the box, unlike other solutions that require customized integration. "NMI's ChipDNA Cloud made it easy for our clients to make that move by delivering the EMV cloud solution that they've been asking for," he said. "It eliminated the need for software installs on every terminal that were previously required with SDKs."

David Anderson, CEO at Preferred Payments, observed that ChipDNA was simple to deploy and use. "ChipDNA Cloud is anticipated to remove 80 percent of the issues that [have] historically complicated the EMV payment implementation for our ISV clients," he said. "We're excited to be partnering with NMI on integrating this game-changing technology into our card-present solution."

Broadly compatible software

Sherman noted that ChipDNA Cloud is supported on Ingenico's family of EMV and contactless devices, which includes the Lane 3000, 5000 and 7000 line of terminals, and the solution is certified on TSYS, with more major processor certifications planned in the fourth quarter of 2020.

NMI stated it provides multiple integration options, comprehensive documentation and customized support to software developers and device manufacturers. POS terminal manufacturers can use the ChipDNA Direct API to pre-equip terminals and make them compatible with the NMI platform. Developers can test applications on payment devices that are pre-certified by leading acquirers and compatible with NMI's SDKs, the company added.

Additional API documentation with integration examples and a payment gateway integration guide are also available, Sherman noted.

Seamless device integration

According to Sherman, the platform-agnostic ChipDNA Cloud API makes building EMV and contactless integrations as easy as offering online payments, unlike traditional device integration that tends to require more time and development resources; also, unlike other platform-specific SDKs, developers and manufacturers can immediately implement ChipDNA Cloud API across all projects. The universal API saves time and money by eliminating the need to build a separate version for each integration, she added.

When ISVs sell software to plumbers, health clubs or after-school programs and want to enable payments, they can leverage NMI, which delivers payment components in ways that limit PCI scope, Sherman pointed out, adding that ChipDNA Cloud API and other NMI solutions are designed to make it easier to seamlessly embed card present payments within a software stack.

"Any time that we make an enhancement or add new functionality, you don't have to work to make it backwards compatible with an existing API," Sherman said. "As a cloud based API, ChipDNA Cloud has much less complexity for software developers and terminal manufacturers, because they don't have to deal with local software on a device. end of article
