Sound Payments unveiled two enhancements to its Sound POS system: product breakdown/packaging functionality and ID scanning. These new features aim to provide greater flexibility for convenience stores and retailers selling age-restricted products, improving operations and compliance.
The product breakdown/packaging function enables merchants to sell products as individual units or in customizable packages, all under the same barcode, Sound Payments noted, adding that merchants can also create custom configurations like pairs or trios, making it easier to adapt to customer needs.
This flexibility ensures that businesses can accommodate diverse customer requests while maintaining accurate inventory tracking and pricing consistency, the company stated.
New advanced ID scanning offers cordless functionality with Bluetooth connectivity and a charging base. It can read IDs from all 50 states, detect expired IDs and flag underage customers, the company said.
Additionally, it supports standard barcode scanning for inventory management, making it a versatile tool for retailers focused on compliance and efficiency. The portable design of the scanner ensures ease of use, even in busy checkout environments, Sound Payments added.
“Feedback from resellers drives our updates,” said Andrew Russell, CEO of Sound Payments. “These enhancements empower merchants with more tools and flexibility.” Cesar Rivas, Sound POS national sales executive, emphasized real-world use cases, such as customers purchasing single cans from broken six-packs. The update streamlines such transactions and optimizes inventory tracking, he said.

Merchants can also leverage reporting tools to monitor sales trends, analyze customer behavior, and make data-driven decisions to enhance profitability, the company stated.
